About the group
VKC group of companies is the one of the leading footwear manufacturers in India. The Group was established on August 17 1984 with a nominal capital and few employees by Mr. V.K.C. Mammed Koya. What started of a Hawai Sheet manufacturing unit expanded into Hawai straps and by 1986 the VKC group launched its first product on own brand name in the market viz. VKC Hawai. The initial production of 600 pairs per day was enhanced to 5000 pairs per day by 1989 and by 1996 it touched 17000 pairs.
The group then launched the first RPVC (Reprocessed Poly Vinyl Chloride) footwear manufacturing unit in the Malabar Area of Kerala. The success of the first Hawai unit and the RPVC unit gave a signal to the local business community on the vast potential in footwear industry which inturn resulted in a rapid change in footwear industry itself. Within a few years the number of Rubber and RPVC units in Malabar area grew to more than 80 which set in motion a vigorous growth in this sector.
In 1994 the group ventured into the first unit in Kerala to manufacture footwear from virgin PVC. This resulted in a transformational change in the footwear industry within India that positioned the local brands at a competitive advantage to international players. In 1998 the group started the first Micro Cellular PVC footwear in Kerala with imported plant and machinery. Our motto of “Quality at an affordable price” made VKC group a sought after footwear producer in the market day by day which saw an expansion of market presence beyond south India.
There were many firsts to the credits of the group.
- 2001 -the first Air injected PVC DIP footwear manufacturing unit in the South India.
- 2003 -the first Injected EVA manufacturing unit in South –Central India.
- 2006 -the first EVA compounding plant in the South –Central India as an effort towards backward integration.
- 2007- the manufacturing of PU DIP footwear.
All this while the Group expanded its management expertise by inducting professional management talent. As of today, the group consists of 25 working Directors and around 100 share holders spread over 19 various units. Annual group turnover stands at Rs.600 crores. More than 3000 employees are working in these units.
The company had achieved a prominent position in the footwear market of India. Headquartered in Calicut, Kerala the main production centers as of now are Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhrapradesh, and Gujrat. Quality and diversified product portfolio fecilitates the group to stand up to market competition. The group continuously upgrading its technological and product base competitive advantages to grow at a fast pace and to keep itself aligned to the market expectations.
